I remember her as a bright, friendly person. I always thought of myself as a "smart" person, but Roxanna was always a step ahead. If I earned a grade equal to her, I knew I'd done something good. Of course, she ALWAYS got the good grade by using intelligence and just plain hard work. Our town, Weston, is precisely in the center of Appalachia. There was no shortage of poverty and ignorance. Roxanna's family is to be credited for lifting her up and helping launch her toward an enlightened, artistic, beautiful world. I never spoke to Roxanna after school, although I kept track of her progress...at least generally. It seems such a waste that she was struck down so early. The best my home town had to offer - gone. If Roxanna were here to give her view of why her life was ended so quickly, she'd offer an "A+" explanation which would include insightful religious and philisophical logic. Again, she'd earn a grade higher than I.
